There's nothing quite like presidential election years in Washington and surrounding areas, and SABEW's annual conference in Baltimore from April 27-29 will take full advantage of being at the nexis of business and politics.

Highlighting the tentative program are interview-style keynote sessions with prominent figures in two of the biggest ongoing stories in the business world, the housing crisis and the power of private equity money. Both David Rubenstein, founder and CEO of Carlyle Group, the Washington-based private equity giant, and Daniel Mudd, CEO of mortgage giant Fannie Mae, are scheduled to appear on Monday afternoon, April 28.

Responding to suggestions from many members, much of the rest of the conference program will focus on hands-on learning that you can apply immediately in an increasingly multimedia environment. Sessions are being envisioned on blogging, using campaign finance databases, and multimedia ventures that work.

As an added bonus, SABEW and the Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism are planning a one-day workshop on Saturday, April 26 to help you develop and practice television and radio presentation skills. Registration for this event will be limited and registrants must also register and pay for the full SABEW conference. Click here for more information.

Other sessions will include a presentation by The Society of Environmental Journalists on how to cover the "greening" of business, sessions that will look ahead to economic policies in the next administration, and personalized critiques and career counseling sessions. Who knows what keepsakes will show up for bidding at the silent auction? And as always, we will recognize the best of our profession at the annual Best in Business awards ceremony and the presentation of the Distinguished Achievement Award at our annual banquet.

On top of all that, Baltimore offers the Inner Harbor and great theater, nightlife, Major League Baseball and legendary crabcakes - all within walking distance of our hotel.

We know that many of your employers are under great cost pressure and many of you now have to pay your own way. So we are pleased to announce reduced conference fees this year and negotiated travel discounts.
